To the Middleville Youth Athletics (MYA) Board:
We, the undersigned parents, coaches, volunteers, alumni, and community members, submit this petition to express our deep concern regarding the current state of leadership, governance, and accountability within MYA.
Our organization exists to serve the youth of our community through baseball, softball, football, and flag football. Families dedicate countless hours volunteering, coaching, and supporting these programs. We believe those families deserve transparency, accountability, and a meaningful voice in the future of the organization.
Over time, trust in the current leadership has eroded due to a lack of transparency, limited communication, and the absence of meaningful opportunities for parents and coaches to participate in decisions that directly impact our athletes and programs.
Our concerns include:
• Lack of transparency regarding financial information, board decisions, and organizational operations.
• Inadequate communication between the board, coaches, parents, and community stakeholders.
• No meaningful process for parents and coaches to provide input or participate in decision-making.
• A board structure that lacks accountability to the families and volunteers who support the organization.
• No term limits for board members, resulting in limited opportunities for new leadership and fresh perspectives.
• A board selection process that is not open, transparent, or representative of the community.
• Growing dissatisfaction among families and coaches, resulting in declining volunteer participation and athletes leaving the organization for neighboring programs.
As stakeholders invested in the success of youth sports within our community, we respectfully request the following actions:
- Immediate implementation of greater transparency regarding organizational finances, board activities, and major decisions affecting the programs.
- Regular public board meetings with published agendas and meeting summaries available to families and stakeholders.
- Establishment of formal parent and coach advisory committees that provide input on policies, programming, and organizational priorities.
- Publication of annual financial reports and other information appropriate for a nonprofit organization.
- Adoption of board member term limits to encourage leadership development, accountability, and fresh perspectives.
- Creation of a transparent board recruitment and nomination process that is open to qualified members of the community.
- Amendment of the organization's governance structure to provide stakeholders—including parents, coaches, and eligible community members—the right to vote on board member elections and leadership positions.
- Development of a clear process by which stakeholders may raise concerns, provide feedback, and participate in organizational planning.
- Leadership changes necessary to restore trust and confidence in the organization, including the resignation of current leadership and the appointment or election of a new board committed to transparency, accountability, and community involvement.
This petition is not intended to divide our community. Rather, it is a call for meaningful reform that will strengthen our organization and ensure that the athletes, families, coaches, and volunteers who make these programs possible have a voice in their future.
By signing below, we affirm our support for these reforms and our desire to see immediate action taken to restore trust, accountability, and transparency within MYA.

Some coaches have been great to work with but organization and communication are not there. We are on a 14u baseball team currently and get games scheduled 3-4 days prior. Very frustrating.
I’m signing this as a parent of athletes at TK. I believe in transparency when it comes to board conduct and feel strongly that a lack of transparency only creates distrust and an unhealthy culture that negatively impacts not only the athletes but also the community and any other entities affiliated or presumed to be affiliated with the program. Boards are meant to govern on behalf of the stakeholders and when that mission fails, it impacts all who are relying on that governance. Unwillingness to provide parents with information pertaining to the program they fund is a conflict that must be swiftly resolved through an immediate change of leadership in order to avoid a complete destruction of the program as a whole.
I agree that change needs to happen! I don't agree that ALL the board members are the issue. I think a lot of them keep their mouths shut and don't speak up in fear off being kicked off the board. Hopefully some change happens!
I am very disappointed in the way that an error on your end was handled which resulted in one of our players being removed from our team.
Youth athletics are imperative to the future success of our district's programs. The number of families leaving MYA programs to join other districts is alarming. We are losing talented athletes and coaches. When you ask WHY? The families say poor communication, lack of transparency, limited or worn-down equipment, and in some cases general disrespect from board members. As a community, we need to mandate a change for organizational governance and require transparency at all levels, including financials.
We would love to see change within this organization to give the kids a better experience and more transparency!
Agreed upon change
