The local board has officially ruled in our favor and affirmed our right to continue operating Dixie Joe’s Crab Shack. I am deeply grateful for the public support that bolstered our position throughout this investigation. We look forward to serving our community from this location for many years to come.

It is with great sadness that we have to announce that Dixie Joe’s crab shack is being shut down in 30 days due to our neighbors (first house) complaining To Zoning. Zoning has had the complaint since March and has been doing their investigation and was not sure what to do so they turned it over to the county attorney as they had seen we went through the county and health dept. They have determined that we have done nothing wrong we went through the proper channels and was approved through zoning 7 years ago to sell seafood from our home location but now they say we are zoned A-3 in cannot sell seafood in that zone. We are appealing this decision as we have put our blood sweat and tears and a lot of money into this business here. We are not going down without a fight. We are approved to do this here we spent a lot of money to get this business going here. We wholeheartedly believe we have vested rights to continue to sell seafood from the building we built behind our house. They cannot just give us permission to do this 7 years ago and now try to take it away from us all because of one jealous neighbor. We were advised by the code compliance officers that we should appeal this as we do have a good chance to get this overturned. There will be a public hearing at the Holbert building soon. The public can come and is encouraged to come. Please come help us keep our business going. If you don’t want to speak you can just come for Support for us. The more people that come the better for us. We have been doing this for seven years and just can’t imagine not doing this anymore. We love our customers and we’ve made so many friends along the way. It’s just not easy to pack up and move to another location. We have so much money in this location here already. We should not lose out everything we put into this. I will post the date of the hearing as soon as I get it. We were voted the best seafood to go restaurant and the second best seafood restaurant and We donate money/gift certificates to the sheriffs department, to the schools, and other local charities, we would love to continue supporting so please come fight for us. I have spent hours trying to write this with each sentence the tears just keep flowing. We just can’t believe how two people can be so Cold hearted and cruel. This is our livelihood, the way we make our living, in the way we pay our bills. Please let me know if you would like to come support us at the public hearing. I do not have the date yet but do know that they meet on the third Tuesday of every month at 7:30 at the Holbert building.
We would appreciate if you sign this petition to save Dixie Joe’s and we will present it at the hearing. If you can also make it to the hearing that would be greatly appreciate it also

I drive by several other seafood locations on the way to get my seafood here instead. Finally found a place that takes the time and actually cares for their customers. Family owned and operated right here in my home town, Spotsylvania VA. Doesn't get any better.

Purchased seafood there ....a better run , cleaner place than many I've been in ..plenty of parking , easy in and out access...not in view , close proximity of anyone ...a well run place ...why close it now after all this time ????...

Spotsylvania county allowed this business to operate for seven years so need to grandfather their approval. Small business owner who continues to invest in their property/business should not lose out because county was awakened by their prior incompetence.

This family business has not only offered seafood at a great price and service but they are a member of this small community and have become apart of most people summer traditions for the past 7 years. Do not take that away from us.

Local businesses already struggle to be profitable. Revoking permission granted in the past because of one complaint is ridiculous. This sets an unfortunate precedence for those wishing to target anyone, knowing it is so easy to shut down a business.

We have gotten crabs from Dixie Joes a couple years now and have always used great Caution while entering the driveway. It would be a shame to shut them down over something so petty. This area was built on small family businesses. Prayers for your fight!

Just silly to think somebody can tell you what to do with your own property and if you don't listen they cry to some form or government. Why can't we worry about ourselves!!
