Please, add daily live meetings to Great Neck elementary school online instruction!

We ask the Great Neck public schools’ officials kindly take into consideration adding daily live meetings to elementary online instructions.
For many children, school represents a place of stability, of family, of belonging. The school’s role, and students’ relationships with teachers have never been more important than now. The online learning plan should include some daily interaction between teachers and students including live meetings as implemented in many excellent public schools, for example, Syosset Public Schools.
GNPS has needed resources to implement live meetings. Live meetings allow eye contact, body language, smile, voice, etc. to become the inseparable parts of high-quality education and teacher-student bonding. These meetings would improve the mental wellbeing of the students, give them the feeling of connectedness, structure and supervision.
Please see the attached SYOSSET CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT ONLINE LEARNING PLAN ELEMENTARY LEVEL that includes twice daily, Monday through Friday, one session with the classroom teacher and another with a special area teacher each 40 minutes.
We also want to acknowledge the great job our teachers doing currently with the tools they’re allowed to use. We believe they could achieve even more adding the live meeting tool.

Seeing this grow makes me realize we are not alone in wanting more for our children. It has been a long road but this momentum gives me the energy to keep pushing for those daily meetings.

It makes no sense not to utilize this incredible opportunity to enhance learning when we have the privilege and resources( you sent home iPads!!!) to do so. My son in middle school has mandatory live zoom meetings while my daughter is studying alone.
I have two kids at Baker. Teachers are trying but with no live interaction they are very disconnected from it and not learning much.
They have been doing this in NYC from day 1 using Google hangouts - no privacy issues whatsoever. Other districts in Long Island too, through zoom, from pre-k levels on. Feels like we are missing out in one of the best school districts in NY, with the best teachers.
The GNPS Union should not dictate and email teachers telling them no live learning. Teachers are threatened and afraid to go against the Union. The amount of taxes we pay should not result in the imbalance of power for it is not in the best interest of the students.
So many schools had live classes as of March 25. No attendance, no live classes in a day where technology is at our fingertips is a selfish act by admin. I have two kids. One in private and one in public here atGN. The one at private had daily online instructions via google meets. Teachers rights do not exceed the parents and taxpayers who are paying the highest taxes in Long Island and most of the US!!
No video teach = no paycheck
I would very much appreciate if the teachers would use zoom to teach our children! It is crucial for the kids to have this contact with teachers in order to stay at their level and not slide backward in their school system!

The current setting has lots of loading parts and pattens had to be the “teacher”. We indeed need some live classes for all students. We understand the safety concern but what is taught should not be considered in high privacy classification. Please hear our voice and do something! Thanks.
