The city finally blinked and yielded to our demand for a crossing guard at New Jersey and Foxworthy. It took too long and far too much pressure to force them to protect these children, but we won. Watch them closely to ensure this guard is actually there every single morning.

Placement of Crossing Guard at New Jersey Ave and Foxworthy Ave Intersection (San Jose)

On the morning of December 14, 2017, an Ida Price Middle school student was seriously hit by a car on her way to school. The accident occurred on the cross-section of New Jersey Ave and Foxworthy Ave.
This is a busy intersection during morning rush hour, with lots of cars making left turns and people rushing to school and work. Therefore, it is extremely dangerous for children walking to Fammatre elementary, Ida Price middle school and Steindorf STEAM school.
This affects the children of our neighborhood - and it's only a matter of time until a child will be seriously hurt or, god forbid, killed.

The city council continues to ignore the danger at New Jersey and Foxworthy despite the clear risk to our kids. We are almost at 100 signatures so blast this link everywhere right now to force their hands.

Foxworthy Ave is the "ramp" for traffic to bypass Camden Ave and still have access to the freeway via Union or Bascom.... The street is very dangerous and not designed to support school crossings by children, etc.
Mayor Liccardo and Council members: Please, as a New Jersey Ave. resident and a witness to many speeding and failure to stop vehicles, put in place an active deterrent at this intersection before a life is lost due to negligence.
I walk everyday with my children to school. This intersection is dangerous. Some drivers are reckless and in a hurry, Sometimes they don’t even wait till pedestrians cross the street to turn or go straight.
That intersection is super dangerous. I've had to cross it several times myself and have seen cars just run the stop sign. Very scary this impacts at least 3 schools.
I live at this intersection and see cars nearly hit pedestrians (as well as other cars) on a daily basis. A crossing guard would greatly increase safety for students and their families while going to school in the mornings when traffic is heaviest.
my son attend fammatre elementary. when i read the email i got so scared. my son rides his bike to school but he goes through Leigh because i told him there is a crossing guard. but if there isnt i advised him to take the foxworthy to New jersey to school. i pray for fast recovery for the child that was hit

Walked with all 4 of my kids over the years to school & it was so frequent that we witnessed cars not stopping much less yielding for pedestrians. Many close calls.
