We represent local Pickleball players who reside in or near Neal Machander Tennis and Pickleball Center. Kudos to Councilmember Nelida Mendoza, Dr. Bratcher and team First Serve Santa Ana who funded to get one standalone dedicated Pickleball court and permanent Pickleball lines painted in 2021 on the tennis courts in the lower side of the center, we get to play Pickleball on the weekends at this venue. We wish to play on weeknights for routine workout; however, there are no lights.
We have observed the standalone tennis court at Portola Park for several weeks and noticed there was very little use for tennis and it has lights.
The reason for this petition is for the City of Santa Ana to consider the following requests listed in order of preference:
1. Convert the tennis court at Portola Park into 4 permanent Pickleball courts with nets, or make it a hybrid tennis/pickleball court with permanent Pickleball lines of yellow color. We the Pickleball community would not mind doing a fundraiser to cover for the cost and helping build a stronger Santa Ana!
2. The City installs lights for Pickleball courts at Neal Machander Tennis and Pickleball Center.

I opened the page this morning and simply could not believe we hit 250 signatures. This started as a quiet hope for better local courts and it is your energy that has brought us this far.

It’s a great and fun sport for all ages and is only growing in popularity. We need more places to play and many people can play on a small footprint. Huge difference than tennis. Thanks for you time.
Pickleball is gaining popularity with all age groups. It would be a great benefit to the community to have pickleball courts for play, as pickleball encourages friendly play, provides physical exercise and mental stimulation.
Pickleball is a wonderful game for anyone to pick up and socialize with other players. It helps build a strong community.
Pickleball is a great activity for all ages and is very cost-effective. 16 people can play on four pickleball courts, using a surface size usually reserved for one tennis court.
I played there for the first time recently. It was a fun social and welcoming group. Would be great to have permanent court and nets. Currently they bring their own chalk to restripe after the rain or wear.

Pickleball is a great family sport. I bought my son and grandson a paddle for Christmas and now we all play together and live it!
