**Background:**

On December 19, 2023, my beloved father passed away. During this time of immense grief and loss, we entrusted the care of his remains to Petrus Booysen, who promised to handle his cremation and burial with respect and dignity. However, what followed was a devastating betrayal.

On January 7, 2024, we received what we believed to be my father’s ashes. However, on February 13, 2025, we received the shocking news that not only had my father not been cremated, but he had also been buried as a pauper in Welmoed Cemetery. The ashes we were given were not my father’s. For over a year, we believed we were holding onto my father's remains, but instead, we are left with a grave injustice.

As a result of this, we have opened a fraud case, and the ashes have been sent for testing to confirm whether they even contain human remains. To compound this horror, we have learned that this is not an isolated incident. Petrus Booysen has been implicated in multiple similar cases of fraud and abuse of grieving families.

**The Facts:**

- My father was cremated on paper but was buried in a pauper's grave in Welmoed Cemetery without our knowledge.
- The ashes we received were not my father’s, and we are unsure of their true origin.
- We were misled and deceived during an extremely vulnerable time, and we have been left without closure or answers.
- Petrus Booysen was granted R1500 bail in early February 2025 after appearing in court for similar charges.

**Our Request:**

1. We demand that Petrus Booysen’s bail be revoked immediately.
2. We request that he be permanently barred from operating as an undertaker or conducting any business in the funeral industry.
3. We urge the relevant authorities to launch a full investigation into his actions, ensuring that no other families fall victim to his deceit.
