This current season of daytime scheduled matches and the allowance of rescheduling due to work commitments has been chaotic, frustrating and much more time intensive for the team captains. When matches are played one at a time, there is little to no team camaraderie nor socializing - a big part of USTA competition. In 2022 the season was played in the summertime; the change to earlier dates in the year was to allow for cooler temperatures for this league. Unfortunately, moving the league dates to March through early May conflicts with 18 and over men’s, women’s, mixed leagues and high school competition. The overlap with other leagues and high school season make scheduling 55 and over even more complicated.

We, the undersigned, request that the 55 and over league revert back to weekend and evening scheduled matches in 2024. Sectionals for the league are in September, the season can start when the men’s and women’s 18 and over league is completed. That would mean playing early May through June. The temperatures will not be too hot to play during this part of the year and court availability at the facilities will open up after all of the 18 and over leagues are completed.

Continuing to schedule the 55 and over league as a daytime league disenfranchises players who have employment commitments and cannot play during the day. The USTA’s mission is one of inclusion - everyone plays, everyone has fun. The mission of USTA is not being fulfilled when players over 55 cannot play in this league on evenings and weekends.

This has been such a hardship on our captains. Difficult for play and practice since overlaps 18+ season.

The current format is very problematic; much too time consuming for all involved, including captains, players, and facility managers. There is no opportunity for socializing with team members, which is a big part of recreational tennis. I will not participate again unless this league is conducted like others -- evenings and weekends.

The whole fun of playing on a tennis team is hanging out and cheering everyone on. I will not be signing up for this league when I turn 55 unless I can play at the same time as my teammates, which would have to be outside of work hours.

Fragmented team play, one in the morning, one in the evening and one on the weekend, has caused immense frustration for the captains. And this year, with all the bad weather, even more so. I support this measure. Thanks.

Wish we knew before signing up for a season. I looked forward to becoming 40 and 55 was the next big mile stone. Here and signed up for a few teams. Not able to tell captain available any dates and explain I work mon-fri. If I wanted to play flex league I would sign up for it.

This format has removed the community aspect of tennis which is a large part of why we play. This format has created an atmosphere of exclusion and discrimination against working players, and there are many who work. As a captain, this has been nothing short of a nightmare.

Absolutely ridiculous that 55+ is expected to play during the weekday when a large number of people still work

To difficult reschedule matches. Is there a time of year where we wouldn’t have so much competition for courts? This has been too difficult for captains
