It has come to my knowledge that a rule was passed in the last AGM that pets are not allowed in ‘S’ and ‘B’ level in our building 1 Kalpataru Garden. All of the pet owners in the building find this rule rather inconveniencing and not in best interest; and request the MC to reconsider with immediate effect. I understand that the discussion was initiated due to someone pet owner not cleaning up after their dog at ‘B’ level and surprisingly due to following shouting and chaos somehow a rule was passed that pets will not be allowed not at B level but also at S level.

As a pet owner, I agree that we should always clean up the poop of our dogs after they have defecated irrespective of B, P or S level; and further they must always be on leash to avoid any untoward incident.

However as a resident of the society I’m not in agreement that certain areas of the building are delimited for pets due to biases of few members against pets/animals.

There are close to 15 pet owners in the building (around 5% members) and we request that PETS BE ALLOWED AT S LEVEL at all times so that even they get their share of fresh air. However if 24/7 is a challenge for reasons best known to MC then a time interval can be set so that they can be strolled in open environment (for their good growth) rather than suffocating & dusty P level.

Section 11(3) of The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960 further stresses on the importance of being kind to animals and providing them a conducive living environment.

Most of the high rises in Mumbai are creating rules and infrastructure to make environment more friendly and conducive for pets but surprisingly our esteemed building is creating adverse rules.

In case we find that some uncivilized pet owners are not properly cleaning the poop of their pets then fines can be levied on them by identifying them with CCTV already installed in the premises. Further we are maintaining a huge staff of housekeeping personnel who can be used for thorough cleaning of any ‘leftover’ poop for the extra satisfaction of any insensitive member.

Also an alternate proposal is to develop the small lawn opp to security desk (next to garbage area) as a play area for pets. This lawn is hardly noticeable or used; and it can used for development of these mute but lovely animals.
