Petition for City of West Branch to reconsider Cedar's Edge Golf Course

I know many of you heard last week the heartbreaking news that Cedar's Edge Golf Course in West Branch will be ending their bright future at the end of this season. Jerry and Tammy Sexton put so much blood sweat and tears into taking this huge risk, and making this much needed improvement for the community, and it is such a shame to see it go so soon. I've heard nothing but compliments about the continuous improvements to the course. In addition to importance of a golf course in a small town for members, non-members, high school golf teams and our youth, there were many amazing plans set to happen: A new club house to be built that included a new event center for Little Lights Events- A facility that could host large weddings, reunions, meetings, etc-, Friday night suppers, new housing and much more. This is a huge loss for our community. Although there may not be a way to salvage this opportunity, I would like to ask you to join me to respectfully voice your opinion at the 7pm city council meeting on Monday September 19th. Please show up early to sign in to have your say during the Communication/Open Forum. If nothing else comes of this, at least we as a community can come together to say, Thank you, Jerry and Tammy. This mattered.

I have been hearing from so many of you about how much that course meant to your families and honestly it makes me want to keep pushing even harder. There is so much stuff happening behind the scenes right now with emails flying back and forth and I am trying to keep track of every single point people are bringing up because the city needs to understand exactly how much they are throwing away.

In order to grow a city needs amenities. A golf course, reception hall and pool all are high on the City's own amenities wish list so I hope there's a way that the Millers, Sextons and City can all come together with some compromises from each to make this work.
I just know how excited our young people were when the course was opened again. Not just the youth of the community but the schools golf teams! It's a real shame to give them a taste of what can be & then turn around & take it away! It's a real asset to the community of WB for a lot of reasons. Please help keep it open & growing.
I left West Branch over 20 years ago and some of my fondest memories revolve around that golf course. Even so far away it hurts to see what has happened since I left. I have been back, sometimes just to play golf there. That piece of land is not just something that can be farmed, it can be something for our kids to think back about.
This course would mean so much to our community. I have children who spent a majority of the summer on the course. This means they were outdoors and being active. Youth in this community need a safe place to enjoy.
I am not a golfer but I would definitely see this as a plus to our community and would take advantage of the club house, dinners and weddings!
Let's keep money in the community! This town has little draw for growth, don't take away what it does have. The revenue that the city will gain from the taxes in these lots for ever is a huge plus for the city alone. The club house that is planned will bring more local businesses income. Only see this as a win win situation for the city and the residents!

Around five months ago I looked out my window and all that I saw was a pasture. With the help of the community and lots of hard work from Jerry, Tami and their family, it turned into a golf course in a matter of weeks. I think our town needs the course to stay open and if the City can do anything to help out I feel the community would appreciate it.
