Re: Petition Against Use of Privately Maintained Park on Saturday, 26 April 2025
We, the undersigned residents of Nettleton Street and surrounding roads in Brandwag, hereby lodge this formal petition against the announcement permitting “Me Wolf” to park any vehicle in or on the park adjacent to the Muslim Community Centre on Saturday, 26 April 2025, in celebration of her daughter’s wedding.
Our Concerns Are as Follows:
- Lack of Community Consultation
- Neighbours directly bordering the park were never informed of this proposed use.
- The Brandwag Neighbourhood Association (BNA) and Community Police Forum (CPF) received no prior notice or invitation to discuss possible impacts.
- Insufficient Notice
- The announcement gave no meaningful warning period for those affected to raise queries, make alternative arrangements for parking, or ensure pedestrian and traffic safety.
- Residents typically receive at least 14 days’ notice for any municipal event or road closure; this timeline was not met.
- Private Maintenance of the Park
- This green space is maintained by local volunteers at their own expense and effort.
- No formal agreement exists between the Municipality and the volunteer-maintenance group to authorize vehicular access or related wear‑and‑tear.
- Potential Impacts
- Damage to Grounds: The soft soil and landscaping are vulnerable to damage from vehicle weight, which may impose repair costs on private residents.
- Noise & Privacy: Residents living adjacent to the park value its tranquility; wedding preparations and guest vehicles may disrupt this peace.
Requested Actions:
- Immediate Revocation of the permission granted for vehicle parking in the park on 26 April 2025.
- Proper Consultation with the BNA, CPF, and directly affected neighbours for any future municipal permissions.
- Alternative Arrangements for Me Wolf’s event, such as use of an approved municipal parking area or alternate public space that does not compromise privately maintained grounds.
We appreciate community spirit and wish Me Wolf and her family every happiness on this joyous occasion—but not at the expense of neighbourly rights, safety, and the integrity of our privately maintained park.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. We trust that the Municipality will act swiftly to address these concerns and ensure that proper procedures are followed in the future.
