We the undersigned disagree wholeheartedly with the decision of the Highland Council to charge £30 per year for the uplifting of brown garden waste bins. We believe that this charge will result in a dramatic increase in Fly-tipping and will unfairly discriminate against those on low incomes who will struggle to afford this, given the 1% increase in council rents and the 3% increase in Council Tax across the Highland Council Area.
According to Shelter Scotland, council tax is a "tax on domestic property collected by your local council. The council use it to pay for local services such as schools, rubbish collection, roads and street lighting"
Therefore the charge is ill thought out and unfair and Highland Council's plans to levy this should be scrapped immediately.

It will cost the council more to clear away the resulting fly tipped rubbish than to empty our brown bins under the current arrangements. We see enough rubbish dumped already, when litter picking alongside local roads and in lay-bys. We don't wish to see more.
Ill-thought out and potentially damaging to the environment. I'd be interested to know if the Council have a plan (and funds) in place to deal with the fly tipping which will inevitably ensue once the brown bin charge is introduced.
The council tax has already been increased and now you want to charge us another £30 so people will just fly tip. There are other ways of saving money which can be carried out like reducing the number of Highland councillors and their pay.
As a pensioner I take pride in my garden and have won many local gardening prizes over the years and wish to continue. I cannot afford £30 from my pension for a few fortnighly uplifts over summer months and completely disagree with this extra charge.
It is a disgrace,this will only hit the people who have brown bins. Not every house within the Highland Council has a brown bin.so can the Highland council explain why they are victimising people with brown bins.... I wil not be paying it..

HC argue not everyone enjoys bb collections. There are many things not enjoyed in different parts of the region I.e. Car parking charges. Invernessians pay through the nose to park around the city or even on residential streets outside their homes! Maybe time for the tail to stop wagging the dog and for The city to go it alone as a separate entity?

Band E upwards are already increasing by 6% and lower bands by 3% this further increase is daylight robbery! An increase in fly tipping is on the cards whIch will cost the council even more to clean up. Typical Highland Council shortsightedness.
