We the people of Tralee whom are under the remit of Higgins Waste Disposal Ltd for our rubbish collection (Domestic, recycling & Organic) , Stand untied against the excessive charges which will continue to raise due to the above named company being driven by profit and external costs.

We are fully aware of the EU regulations and government policy and how on the April 13 2015 a new pay-by-weight or as Higgins has said ‘'Weigh Less – Pay Less'’ system.(http://traleetoday.ie/pay-by-weight-system-to-tran...) Pay per weight is EU directive but did not have to be applied until July this year.

This system is actually having an extremely negative effect, people are struggling to pay and allowing rubbish to gather~ which can potentially be a breeding ground for rats etc. We also have raising levels of illegal dumping which is having a saver adverse effect not only only our environment but also on tourism within this town and surrounding areas . which is leaving the Council to clean up on adding to there budgetary expense massively.

There is many ways in-which all parties can be happy For example Higgins Waste Disposal offer a six monthly fee of €150 if that was allowed to be payed weekly that would equal to €6.25 which is fair and agreeable by all, instead we have a system whereby you must have €30 at all collection times on your card, €12 is taken out at the start of each month to cover transport to UK landfills and then our disposal is weighed which many reporting just one collection to be excess of €20 which is totally unjust, We untimely feel change needs to happens.

All we ask is for a fair long term contractual payment system whereby people pay a small fee each week for there waste disposal, as was previously the case with Kerry County Council before our waste disposal was privatized.
