On October 17th, the Clark County Board of Commissioners will consider an ordinance restricting pet shops to sell dogs, cats, rabbits and pot bellied pigs, unless they are acquired from local shelters and rescues.This effort helps alleviate the burden upon local shelters/rescue groups due to animal overpopulation, reduces euthanasia rates of healthy adoptable animals, and combats puppy mills.

Pet stores are outdated, inhumane. Not to mention, we have way too many dogs,cats,bunnies, pigs and reptiles in our shelter system to have a retail store sell them. I beg of you to pass this ordinance so no more animals suffer in cramped cages and will no longer be flipped, only to be sold for a profit.
Please, please, please sign this ordinance from a dog mother who purchased two pet store puppies before I knew better. After all of our thousands in vet and dog trainer bills I can attest that these breeders do not care for the parents of these puppies or the puppies that they produce. Adopt don't shop. And if you buy, research and only buy from very reputable breeders that care for breed and not making money.
I am from Iowa and have seen firsthand the horrors of puppy mills. No creature should be subject to such a lifetime of cruelty and misery. Let's be part of the solution instead of part of the problem!
We have shelters and rescues who are overflowing with dogs, cats, rabbits and several other animals. These animals that are purchased are not fixed and most have medical issues due to their envoirment before being bought. There is no need for puppy mills, breeders or pet stores in Las Vegas!
This restriction is needed for all the reasons outlined in petition, and I would hope to see rabbits added to the list of breeds due to the overpopulation and dumping of bunnies that we have experienced throughout the valley. . .as rabbit rescuers can attest.
So many animals are euthanized every year. Please adopt, don't buy a puppy mill dog.
