Non-biodegradable plastic bags often are discarded into the environment and end up polluting our waterways, clogging sewers, endangering marine life and creating unsightly litter.

The intent of this petition is to communicate to the Board of Trustees of the Villages of Pelham and Pelham Manor that voting community members want the trustees to pass an ordinance encouraging the use of reusable checkout bags and banning the use of plastic bags for retail checkout of purchased goods.

Some helpful definitions:

Resusable bag means a bag with a handles that is specifically designed and manufactured for multiple reuse and is made of cloth or other fabric, and/or durable plastic that is at least 2.25 mils thick.

Checkout bag means a carry out bag that is provided to a customer at the point of sale.  The term "checkout bag" does not include plastic produce or meat bags, or plastic bags measuring 28" by 36" or larger in size.

Help Us...Pass It Along

If you support our efforts to encourage the use of reusable bags and ban the use of pastic bags, please forward the link to this petition to Pelham and Pelham Manor friends and neighbors.  Our aim is to goal is to collect 500 signatures of voting Pelhamites by the end of the summer or sooner.

Thanks for your support.
