Salary Disparity between Peds Residents and APP Fellows at SCH

This is what all UW pediatric residents made pre-tax during the 2023-2024 academic year:
R1: $72,564 ($8.28/hr)
R2: $75,120 ($8.58/hr)
R3: $77,928 ($8.90/hr)
Pediatric APP fellows made $105,000 pre-tax during the 2023-2024 academic year.
Pediatric interns have the exact same job description as the APP fellows when in the hospital. We work on the same teams and carry the same complexity of patients. However, APP fellows get every other week off, do not work any night shifts, and are not expected to carry medical students. Senior residents are expected to support them as well as both pediatric and visiting interns while running the entire inpatient team. Senior residents complete 24-hour call shifts often and resume significant leadership responsibilities and care coordination expectations for patients that APP fellows are not expected to handle; yet senior residents are also paid less. As pediatric residents we already are burned out and overworked, but the salary disparity has increased frustration and have caused an increased work burden for us as well as misdirected resentment towards the APP fellows. Please sign this petition to support fairer salary compensation for the pediatric residents and to increase our salary to match or exceed their APP fellow colleagues.
NOTE: We respect the salary the APP fellows are making and encourage the APP fellowship program to continue compensating them a competitive wage.
