PDX Pop Where? seeks to change campus policy and make campus events at Lewis and Clark more inclusive of the local community. With dwindling all ages venues in Portland, and underutilized space at Lewis and Clark, there is an opportunity for a mutually beneficial relationship between the Portland music community and the Lewis and Clark community.
Currently, local artists are not allowed to bring members of the Portland community to campus or promote shows that they play at Lewis and Clark.
A frequent complaint of Lewis and Clark students is that our school is insulated and removed from Portland life. Opening up campus events to members of the Portland music community would bring Portlanders to campus for shows, creating an opportunity for LC students to get involved with local musicians, artists, and community members directly. For the Portland community, Lewis and Clark would be a place where an all ages venue could exist sustainably, as our buildings aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Thanks for moderating this dialogue. It is absurd that we cannot use our resource to actually be a positive force for the local arts community rather than just maintaining the self-serving model we currently have.
