The board actually listened and voted to keep the policy exactly as it is so we can finally stop worrying about all this chaos in the schools. My coffee is cold and I am staring at the screen in disbelief because I really thought they were going to ignore us …

Pacifica School District Nit Policy

A petition of the families of Vallemar, Ocean Shore, Cabrillo,

Ortega, Sunset Ridge and Ingrid B. Lacy Schools,

PSD Employees & Interested Community Members

Addressed to the Pacifica School District Board

We the undersigned would like to bring your attention to the following problem, with recommendation(s):

The Pacifica community members named herein overwhelmingly agree that the current Head Lice Policy should not be amended or nullified.   We the undersigned, by signing this petition, are requesting of the Pacifica School District Board of Directors: Mike O’Neill; Eileen Manning-Villar; Cynthia Kaufman; Joan Weideman; and Karen Ervin to consider the ramifications of such a decision that overrules the majority opinion shared by Teachers, Staff, Administrators, Parents and Community Members and to vote AGAINST ANY CHANGES to the current no-nit policy.   It is the collective mission of the above named persons to support the Educational Community through funding; academic development; and community activism.  Any decisions by the PSD Board of Directors that defy the common interests of this population may have a negative impact on Pacifica schools and the community it serves.  Therefore, we are requesting via petition a “no” vote on any change/s to the existing HEAD LICE policy.  Should the Pacifica School Board choose to amend the policy, this petition shall also serve to appeal such a ruling through the San Mateo County Board of Education.

I spent the entire morning scrolling through all your comments because honestly some of the stories are just wild and I need to keep remembering why I hit publish on this in the first place. Nobody wants to deal with changing these rules when the current system works fine and I keep emailing the board members to tell them exactly that even if they are probably tired of seeing my name pop up in their inbox.

I really thought this might just fizzle out but seeing how many people from these schools jumped on board so quickly is honestly kind of overwhelming. It is clear nobody wants these changes and I am just staring at my screen trying to process how we actually have real momentum now because clearly we all agree that keeping the current policy is the only way to go.

Ridiculous to even think about changing this. Nobody wants their kids coming home with bugs in their hair. Leave it alone!

I work at one of the schools and we definitely need this policy to keep the kids safe. Please listen to the parents on this one.

Keep the policy as it is. We dont need head lice going around the classrooms because the district decided to relax the rules. Its just common sense.

My daughter has had lice before and it was a nightmare to get rid of. Please do not make it easier for it to spread in our schools.
