My name is Emma Jenner and I am starting a Petition to try and get the NHS to put a Oximeter on babies for the first 24 hours of life.
I am doing this because my son was born with a heart condition (Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome) that went undetected. We bought him home when he was 1 day old, he was fine for the first night but on the third day of life he collapsed due to his heart condition. He has sustained brain damage from his collapse and received multi- organ failure at the time of the collapse which he has very luckily recovered from.
If he had had a Oximeter placed on him for the first 24 hours of his life his condition could have been picked up and he would not have gone through the horrific ordeal that he has.
I do not want other parents to have to go through what me and my family did. Our son is very lucky to be alive and is doing fantastically now, but other people may not be so lucky, so please sign this petition to save other families and children.
The growth of this petition has reached a level that allows us to request a formal meeting with representatives from the NHS newborn screening board. I am currently drafting the briefing documents to outline our clinical proposal and will provide an update once the meeting is confirmed.

My niece had a heart defect too and we were so lucky they caught it in time. Every single baby needs this done before they leave the ward it just makes sense.

This is such a simple test that could save so many babies. It makes me so mad that something so easy is being overlooked by the hospitals. My heart goes out to your little boy.
