The Council has received an application for a lap dancing and strip club in Legh Street, Warrington. This is to include topless nudity on pole dances and full nudity on stage stripping. We object to this from a moral stance, however as that is not a legally accepted viewpoint, we object to the application for 4 reasons.
CRIME and DISORDER
We would expect there to be an increase in opportunist crime as a result of this club opening, and although it is slightly out the town centre, it is on the main walking route to Bewsey, and the chance of drunken conflicts could only be increased.
PROTECTION OF CHILDREN FROM HARM
The premises would be extremely visible to anyone exiting the Golden Square shopping mall. It is wrong to have such premises so close to a family orientated centre, and in addition there is a childrens nursery on Legh Street, which could attract the attention of some unsavoury customers.
PUBLIC SAFETY
There is no parking provision in the area, open during the clubs proposed hours, and this will force people to park in already busy residential areas. This will lead to increased noise in built up areas.
PREVENTION OF PUBLIC NUISANCE
Late night alcohol provision in Warrington is lucky to be concentrated in a small area, without much in the way of residents. This allows better policing. These proposed premises would be isolated from the rest, on a busy walking route from town to Bewsey, and we feel that the public nuisance element has not been fully considered - especially with a 3am closing time.
These are the same objections that were considered by Hammersmith and Fulham council in November 2008, when a similar proposal was presented to them.
We cannot see any benefit to this proposal, which we petition the planning officials to reject out of hand.
