Rogers park basketball gym has been closed since the pandemic started and understandably so, but since it’s ended the gym should be opened back up to the public. The basketball gym has always been a way to bring the community together, allow people to meet different people in the city that they reside and connect on another level. They city has allowed the park to open the weight room, the racketball court and other areas of the park, but not the basketball gym and I don’t understand why. It’s starting to feel like they want to keep a certain group out of the park which is unfair. I’ve been going to that specific gym since I was 3 years old and I’m 29 now, In all that time I’ve always been able to go there as an escape, and I’m sure there are hundreds of other people who feel the same way. It’s not just a park for us it’s like a land mark and It should be opened back up as soon as possible.

Please sign if you want to open up the gym

Updates

The city keeps opening every other part of the facility while leaving the basketball gym locked up tight. This blatant exclusion is an insult to everyone in Rogers Park who relies on this space for community and sanity. I am DONE waiting for them to do the right thing on their own.

The massive surge in support proves the city cannot keep ignoring us while they handpick which facilities stay locked. We have the momentum now to force these bureaucrats to justify why they are excluding our community from our own gym.

There are people who play basketball everyday. We play for Cardio and good health. It also keeps younger people out if trouble, A great place for kids to learn the game of basketball

Rogers is where I grew up , learned how to play ball . Rogers park is my home away from home , and it would be a great asset to the community to have somewhere for our youth as well as adults to workout , do events for the youth , Mens leagues and the list goes on . As an Inglewood native and advocate for my city I speak for everyone when I say we NEED that gym to be open again to our community , for the safety of the youth and an opportunity to get better and learn from their peers as well as staff who are known to be mentors to our up and coming adolescents.
