The Navy continues to hide behind their gates while they steal a public resource from our community. We are currently scouting legal avenues to challenge their illegal occupation of the road and force them to open the path to the pond.

The Navy thought they could just block our road and hope we would go quietly into the night. This momentum shows them that we are not going anywhere until they stop stealing our access to the pond.

I will call Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine commander David Hunt. I do not think rhat they can legally do this. People cannot lget to their homes or access a public lake or launch rheir boats to go fishing or swimming. The u s Navy is not going to do this to us!. Just because they have a recreation facility on this lake they cannot take and shut down the road to the public!
This is crazy!! Great friend has an Island on that pond...are we supposed to fly in??!!!!
I grew up swimming there and my best friend lived on that road. The young people that live there today should be able to have those same great memories.
The Great Pond Rd has always been a public access to Great Pond along with the public boat launch. Grew up there in the 80s and 90s and still bring kiddos to the rec hall and beach and rent kayaks and such. 35years of utilizing this public road, boat launch and beach
This is and always has been a public road. How is it that the Navy thinks they own it and can stop people from going to the pond. Doesn't our government/Navy have better things to do? Always was a public road when I lived there 40 years ago.
The road NEVER belonged to the Air Force. The government has no legitimate claim to the road, and as such should remove their sign and open the road to the public, as it is the public's road.
The Great Pond road has been maintained and used by the citizens and visitors to Great Pond for 50+ years. The Navy is way out of line on this. Who the heck is paying for all these “Milllitary Recreation Camps” anyway?

My ancestors were the first settlers of this town. The land was given to the Air Force I believe by Jack Norris. He however DID NOT own the road and never conveyed it to them. The road has ALWAYS been owned and maintained by the town, first Plantation #33, then Great Pond Plantation, now the town of Great Pond. I am going to send letters to our senators, legislators, governor and whoever else I can think of. There is power in numbers, and we need to band together and let them know we will not stand idly by and let them take access to this beautiful pond away from us!!!!!
