As homeowners I believe we have the right to use our property in a responsible manner. We should be able to be trusted to spend time outdoors in the pool deck area. There is no reason that social distancing cannot be continued in the pool area as it is on the rooftop patio, the 5th floor patio, the lobby, the mail area and the elevators. I know there may be a concern that people may get into the pool if allowed into the area, but up until a few weeks ago the pool deck had been open for at least a year with no concern about people getting into the water. We were able to make a responsible choice to not get into the water when the actual pool was not open. Now is no different. I know there may be a concern that the area may become too crowded. I think looking at the occupancy of the rooftop deck over the past month is a good indicator of how the pool deck might be if opened. I have been to the rooftop patio on numerous occasions and there have never been more than six people at a time. Often it is deserted. I believe the residents can reasonably and responsibly manage the number of people on the pool deck. If there is a concern about people from outside the building coming to the pool area, we have a policy for that. If the board doesn’t feel the current pool/rooftop policies are adequate (in light of current situations) there should be no reason the policies can’t be modified accordingly. Bottom line, these common areas are an extension of our property and I think as homeowners we deserve to be trusted to occupy our property in a responsible and safe manner during this time.
