As a resident of Ojai, we the undersigned would like to see Rent Control on the agenda for discussion at the City Council level. Currently, there is no rent control in Ojai, CA and there have been several spikes in residential and commercial rentals. With a population of approximately 5,000 people, the rent has become competitive and comparable with Los Angeles, that has 3 million residents and access to jobs that pay six figures and above. Rents in Ojai, CA have been increasing at an exponential level without reflecting any increase in minimum wages or access to higher paying jobs.

We would like to preserve the community in Ojai, CA and that means living with accessible housing that reflects our values and economy. The tourist economy has affected the local residents in several ways; prospects by homeowners, investors and landlords to increase rent is making it difficult for locals to have the quality of life that is so indicative of Ojai. To keep Ojai accessible to everyone, not just people buying second homes here or retirees, but considering locals who are investing in community; young artists, writers, first families, people who cherish living a simpler life and are trying to make Ojai their home.

We feel that it is important to have regulation on rent in order for people to have enriched lives here. To make time for volunteering, gardening, making art. Ojai is not Los Angeles. We hope to keep rent affordable here, for folks to build a life not influenced by capitalist incentives. Please keep Ojai affordable, neighborly and community-based. We ask that Rent Control be regulated to preserve the culture here.

I've been seeing friends - some of whom have lived hear longer than me - start to get shut out of living here. It is starting to defeat why people live here in the 1st place...

My husband and I own a business in Ojai but unfortunately are not sure if we can stay here because of the rent! We can't even think about saving to buy with the price of rent here!!! The merchants are the people that make Ojai what it is and when we can't afford to live in the same town we do business then we look at doing business somewhere else!!! I love this town and the people in it but I cannot justify this rent! Ojai policies are running the people that grew up here out and driving business owners to a town where they can actually make a living!!! Ojai has NO rent control like other cities! That def needs to be addressed.... soon if it doesn't change this will be a town of a couple of restaurants and hotels only!!!! Everyone is leaving! It's very sad!!! And the saddest part is that we would apparently have people leave and relocate than make it livable for them... and don't get me started on the slum lords in this town!!! There is one on every block!!!!!

We are losing homes for families to be able to stay in the very community they grew up in. Your letting business run families off.
