We, the undersigned, would like to petition the Ann Arbor Public School board and superintendent to offer at least one half day kindergarten option somewhere in the district open to students from throughout the district. While we understand and support the move by the Ann Arbor Public Schools to offer full day kindergarten for those children and parents who need it, we also recognize that it is not the right fit for some children for whom a full day of school is too much at that young age and who would benefit from a more gradual transition to full day school. We believe that parents/guardians should be given the opportunity to choose which kindergarten option is best for each child rather than be forced into a one size fits all model. We believe that the district may be losing students who seek half day kindergarten elsewhere and feel it would benefit the district to consider giving parents the option of a half day program.
