THE RIDGEFIELD BOARD OF EDUCATION UNANIMOUSLY VOTED IN FAVOR OF FULL-DAY KINDERGARTEN ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 22ND! A NEW PETITION HAS NOW BEEN CREATED ADDRESSING THE BOARD OF FINANCE IN SUPPORT OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION'S BUDGET. THE BOARD OF FINANCE MUST APPROVE THIS BUDGET (INCLUDING FULL-DAY KINDERGARTEN) IN ORDER FOR IT TO BE VOTED ON BY THE PUBLIC ON TUESDAY, MAY 11, 2010. As Ridgefield parents, voters and tax payers we unconditionally support full-day Kindergarten. The town’s current 2 hour and 46 minute program (the lowest in our DRG) provides our students with 30 minutes of reading OR writing OR word study and 25 minutes of math OR science OR social studies. This abbreviated and fragmented schedule is unacceptable and does not reflect a 21st century education. Ridgefield’s children deserve better; they deserve the best education we can provide. Our educators’ proposal is neither novel nor groundbreaking. Instead, it allows Ridgefield to bring its Kindergarten program up to the norm. In full support of full-day Kindergarten, we sign below willing to sacrifice where necessary in order to invest in the future of our school programming and in our children’s love of learning.

SO HAPPY TO SEE THIS HAPPENING. Our teachers are amazing and they deserve the time to actually teach properly.
Keep moving forward. Education should be the priority in this town.
My son is bored to tears because they barely have time to get into a lesson before the bell rings. About time.
Ridiculous that it took this long. Nearly every other town around us has had full day for years. Catch up ridgefield!!
Finally! It was so hard trying to juggle daycare on top of the short school day. This is going to help so many working families in town.

Hope this goes through. Kids need more time for social skills and play not just rushing through the basics.
