IF YOU WANT TO SUPPORT EXTENDED DAY, PLEASE SIGN WITH YOUR NAME. UNFORTUNATELY, SIGNING "ANONYMOUS" WILL NOT HELP THE CAUSE.  THANK YOU!

Wilton has a unique and special Kindergarten Extended Day (ED) program with 2 long and 3 short days. Kindergartners have thrived from special attention from the teachers on their long days, when only half the class is present.  The half day program allows teachers to focus on individuals in a smaller group setting.  Kindergartners also enjoy the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities, play dates and family time on their short days.  For a young child who may not "excel" at school, the short days allow them time to explore other interests to boost their confidence. The ED program allows a kinder transition from preschool to full day school in first grade.

Full Day Kindergarten (FDK) will eliminate/reduce the small group instruction students receive during Extended Day, curtail play dates and extracurricular activities during this important transitional year. For students not ready for FDK but capable of ED, parents will incur an unplanned financial burden of enrolling children in a 5s program ($7000-$16,000).  For academically advanced children, FDK may increase boredom as the school eliminated funding of enrichment programs several years ago. It may also have a negative financial impact on the local economy as businesses that provide child services could lose students.

**The Wilton FDK proposal does not include a full time teaching assistant, which other Fairfield County programs have.**

The transition to first grade is hard enough. Why make it harder? Let them be kids.

My oldest thrived in this program. Taking it away is a huge mistake for our kids development and mental health. Leave it alone.

A full day program is gonna cost us a fortune in childcare for the enrichment activities we lose. Bad idea.

This schedule is exactly what kids need at that age. Not every child is ready to be locked in a classroom for five full days!

PLEASE keep the extended day!! The small groups are the best part. Do not push full day on these little ones.

Stop fixing things that arent broken. Wilton has a good system and parents like the flexibility. Leave it exactly how it is.
