I have spent the last few days reading through the personal notes left by those who signed. It is clear that the rhythm of a half-day schedule provides a necessary transition for our youngest learners that a full-day model simply cannot replicate. We are currently gathering these perspectives to present at the next district session to ensure the administration understands the nuance of our community request.

Seeing the momentum behind this cause confirms how deeply our community values the current structure of our kindergarten programs. This collective response shows that we are aligned in our commitment to preserving the educational environment our children deserve.

Although I understand why many families want and/or need full day kindergarten, and am very happy that this option makes it possible for them to receive what is best for their child and family, it completely eliminates what is best for my child and family. Financially, I'm also unclear as to how this will work in our district. New teachers will need to be hired, more classrooms will be needed, and those rooms will need to be stocked with everything from tables and chairs (larger items) to math manipulatives (smaller items). We already have some schools that are using rooms as classrooms that are not, and were never intended to be classrooms.
We can't have the half day option taken away from us. So many children are not ready for all day kindergarten. What about children with developmental delays or those who are fresh, new 5 year olds?

Taking choices away from parents is never in the best interest of children.

I'm not interested in putting my child in full day kindergarten. I would appreciate the option of having half-day kindergarten.

Both of my kids were in half-day and that was a conscious decision. Many kids are ready for all-day school in kindergarten, but there are plenty who are not. Please keep this as an option! There truly is a need and desire for community
