The administration confirmed that the U-Pass will be available to all students starting next term. I am overwhelmed by the result because I know how many of us struggled to cover transit costs while commuting for internships. We showed the school that equitable access matters for every single student.
The CTA U-Pass offers unlimited rides on CTA trains and buses for full-time college students.
Currently, Northwestern University provides select students in the Graduate School, Feinberg, McCormick, and Medill the benefits of having a U-pass.
As members of the Northwestern community, ALL students should have access to this option. There are plenty of students in SoC, Weinberg, Beinen, and SESPE who travel into the city every day to do unpaid internships or for other purposes. Why doesn't Northwestern extend this opportunity to all of its students?
Sign this petition if you think you would benefit from a U-Pass. Or even if you simply believe that NU should make the U-Pass an option that all students could choose to participate in.
Seeing 500 people agree that we all deserve the same transit access feels incredibly validating. My own internship commute is grueling without this pass and I am relieved to know so many of you share this frustration.

Seeing one hundred people sign this in such a short time shows I am definitely not the only one struggling with these transit costs. It feels good to know that so many of my fellow students face the same barriers commuting into the city.

Seeing this grow so quickly reminds me of the mornings I spent calculating bus fare instead of studying for my own classes. The momentum backing this shift toward equity is truly overwhelming.

Finally someone said it. paying full tuition and still having to drop cash on every single train ride is a joke.

it makes no sense to limit this to only some departments. we all need to get to class.
