To Whom It May Concern and District 2 Councilman Jim Waring,
The purpose of this letter is to bring to your attention the fact that the residents of the north valley neighborhood known as Norterra have numerous concerns regarding the purposed building of a 74,000 square foot two story storage facility in their residential community. This facility would be located on the Northeast corner of North Valley Parkway and Norterra Parkway. In order to get this storage facility built, the land developers, De Rito Partners, would need to receive a special zoning permit from the City of Phoenix. We as a community are seeking to stop this from happening in the place we call home. We all chose to make our homes here because of the promise of the community, and we believe that this community is at risk. We cite the following items as examples of our concern
Ø Facility would be too large at 74,000 square feet and two stories.
Ø Facility has no current tenant which could leave it empty and create an eyesore.
Ø Facility is slotted to be open 24 hours a day. o Storage facilities can attract more crime to our area.
o The facility would increase traffic at all times during day and night.
Ø There are already several storage unit facilities with in a five mile radius, many of which are not currently filled to capacity.
Ø This type of structure has no place in a residential community. It would be better suited for an industrial area.
Ø Lack of emergency responders in the area coupled with placement of such a large structure could create a potential safety hazard.
Ø If this storage facility fails, it would be nearly impossible to find another tenant needing that much space.

The feedback from neighbors in the Norterra community has been overwhelming. I am busy gathering our official points for the upcoming zoning discussion.

Residential area is not the place for this for the reasons outlined in the petition. There is more residential areas being developed along North Valey Parkway that need food and convenience outlets or entertainment or gathering places for people not storage units.
This area needs family friendly and casual restaurants. They would succeed and thrive. This type of structure would be terribly out of place, an eyesore and has a strong possibility of failure. There are so many more successful ventures that the community would support!
We really do not want a 24 hour storage facility in our neighborhood. This would make the 3rd facility in a 2 mile radius and should be built in a more industrial area -- not in the middle of a large residential area of high priced homes.
I don't oppose storage units in general (as I rent one for my business) but the proposed placement of this building would not be conducive of the stylw I would like in this neighborhood. Please do not allow a zone change.
De Rito Partners - it isn't our fault because you haven't been able to close commercial deals on your property for 3 years! We shouldn't suffer because you can't close deals and kept your rent high where businesses went else where. We do NOT want a 74,000 shell in our backyards
Detracts from our community.
Please help us keep our community beautiful and and as crime-free as possible. This is not the BEST location for this type of facility with its proximity to family-friendly neighborhoods. Thank you- Heather

Really? I can't imagine why anyone would be upset with a 700 unit, two-story industrial storage unit complex that is open 24 /7 increasing traffic and crime built in the middle of their Del Webb residential community. Please, do not approve the permit.
