Re: Greenville County Planning Commission - Docket Number CZ-2008-53 - Project proposed to be named \"Georgia Creek\" See #CZ-2008-53 at The petitioners object to the proposed rezoning of 37 acres at the intersection of West Georgia Road and Rocky Creek Road from R-S (Residential Suburban) to PD (Planned Development) The proposed Planned Development is an inconsistent use, which will bring unwanted commercial activity into the middle of a 5-mile stretch of residential use of West Georgia Road, and will \"wrap\" around onto Rocky Creek Road. West Georgia Road is adequately served by commercial businesses at the I-385 interchange, at the Fork Shoals intersection, and 3-miles away at Fairview Road. The petitioners do not desire to have West Georgia Road and its intersection with Rocky Creek Road to become a traffic snarled commercial corridor. We enjoy our tree-lined residential corridor. Additionally, the developer has stated a specific desire to include drive-thru restaurants, banking, etc. The additional traffic headaches caused by drive-thru activities at this intersection is unacceptable. Widening of West Georgia Road and/or Rocky Creek Road is not part of this project. SC DOT acknowledges the need for improvements to the existing roads, and this commercial/residential project simply exacerbates an already sore problem for the existing homeowners. However, no funding has been appropriated for the necessary improvements. Additionally, there are numerous residential developments already approved along this same corridor. Many of these developments remain incomplete with vacant lots and unsold housing. It is inappropriate to approve even more housing in this area, when the existing approved development languishes. We the undersigned property owners do hereby oppose the rezoning by Greenville County Council of that property located at WEST GEORGIA ROAD AND ROCKY CREEK ROAD and filed with the Greenville County Department of Planning as Docket CZ-2008-53 scheduled for the August 18th, 2008 Public Hearing, the August 19th First Reading, and the August 27th Planning Staff Recommendation to the Planning Commission.
