To Mayor Warren and the Board of Aldermen:
We, the undersigned residents of the City of Newton express our profound concern about the attempt to allow free sales of marijuana within the city.
Once these places are opened, there is a high chance that drug addicts will be roaming our streets on foot and in their cars. There is no doubt that the safety of our children will be further compromised by this, to say nothing of road safety, living standards and property values.
Therefore, we request that you not allow a change of zoning codes that would lead to marijuana sellers free reign to operate in our city.
The feedback I continue to receive confirms that many residents share these serious concerns regarding local safety and the preservation of our neighborhoods. We are currently preparing a formal summary of these viewpoints to present to the Board of Aldermen. Further updates will follow once we have secured a date for a public discussion on this zoning proposal.

Property values are going to tank if this happens. Why would anyone want this near homes?

NOT IN NEWTON. We have enough problems with traffic already without adding stoned drivers to the mix. Bad idea.
