NO NOAA MARINE SANCTUARY

The State of Wisconsin is ready to GIVE AWAY control of 1,260 sq.mi. of Lake Michigan fresh water, beach and bottomland to the Federal Gov.

This is an IRREVERSIBLE, historic LOSS and Wisconsin residents are NOT INCLUDED in the FINAL decision unless you speak up now.

We, the undersigned, petition for the cancellation of the proposed Lake Michigan National Marine Sanctuary to be located in Lake Michigan adjacent to Ozaukee, Sheboygan and Manitowoc counties and optionally Kewaunee County. We believe the nomination process was flawed and lacked full disclosure of material facts. We believe that implementation of the sanctuary will result in onerous regulations that would deprive us of free and unencumbered use of the designated area. We oppose the duplicitous and unaccountable expenditure of taxpayer dollars. We believe the management of cultural resources should be the responsibilities of state and local governments.

A NOAA Sanctuary to protect shipwrecks is a distraction to the real goal of NOAA establishing jurisdiction over Lake Michigan. NOAA already has authority over Lake Huron. In addition to Lake Michigan NOAA is trying to establish sanctuaries today in Great Lakes of Superior, Ontario and Erie. Sanctuaries on all the Great Lakes will give NOAA control over the largest supply of fresh water in America.

I say NO to the NOAA Marine Sanctuary! Those ships have been down under for years and now all of a sudden we are having a sanctuary idea crammed down our throats. This should be the responsibility of state and local gov'ts. not the federal gov't.

The Wisconsin State Historical Society started this back in 2008. All the government agencies involved are looking for their share of the Federal Pork. All they care about is bigger budgets and more authority.

We do not need a federal agency to take control of this area of Lake Michigan. The key word is "control"!

None of the items NOAA offers to do require a sanctuary. What is their true reason for wanting this power?

I'm asking the voters of WI to realize that they will be effected by this NOAA Sanctuary. Land owners in MI learned this when they tried to cut down some trees on their private land, being told "you can't do that." America Somoa fishermen were told by NOAA that we will not deny your fishing rights, now the Somoa gov't has a lawsuit against NOAA because they have violated those rights. Jeremish O'Brien, V.P. of the Morrow Bay, CA, Commercial Fishermen's Organization stated that "NOAA violated the promise that the marine sanctuary there would not threaten their livelihoods." There are many other examples but most Wisconsinites will never hear them because the NOAA and its "WI friends" won't ever let this be made known nor allowed to present this type of info at its public hearings. When we bring up these examples we are put down with, "tin heads". End of discussion! Once the NOAA has control all opponents are silenced forever. The bureaucrats now rule.
