I understand that the T.L.I.A. has now applied for a permit to remove some of the rice on Tawas Lake. I am a Sportsmen or Sportswomen, that BELIEVES that this to be a action that is NOT best for the wildlife ,fish ,or sportsmen in the area and of Michigan. I am taking the time to petition you and let you know know I believe this is environmentally unsound and is detrimental and the wrong process to do to what your fellow researchers know to be a deep water coastal marsh.

I am petitioning you to take action to stop all of these actions in consideration at this time and protect one of the last marshes in the northeastern Michigan area that is total necessity to protect to sustain all of the wildlife and fish spices in the area.

WE are of the understanding that it is up to the D.E.Q. (you) to do what is best for the lakes environment and you have responsibility to the people of the City of East Tawas ,Baldwin Township, Tawas Township and All of the property owners and public using this body of water had ought to be considered when using chemicals where they become mobile by winds and currents of the marsh and river.

I also believe as a petition signer that the acts of the local aboriginals as an alternative plan for aquatic weed control offered by them is best for the Marsh and all wildlife and fish.

I have been overwhelmed by the messages you have all sent me about the importance of protecting our marshland. It is clear that this is a community effort because the insight you provide is what keeps this cause going.

This is wrong. Do not use chemicals that can enter the waterways. This can damage fish, animals and other ecology in the area. Let the local people take care of the swamp. There is no reason for your interference. This is a food source for the Native Americans. Please do not destroy that.

A major waterfowl nesting and migratory stopover. Leave this lake alone, it's ecological value is too important with the rice being a major piece of that!

The use of chemicals in Tawas Lake to reduce the wild rice, will not only poison the rice, but could have devastating consequences to the biodiversity of the lake and health of marine life, but also wild life on land that depend on the lake for both water and food. For these reasons I must insist this practice cease and that the Indigenous people who harvest the rice, for food, be given the opportunity to reduce it, manually, every year, until such a time comes, where it is at a smaller, more manageable level of masses.

Tawas lake is an amazing duck habitat. Why would we put that in danger. You bought a house on Tawas lake u knew what you were getting yourself into. Why should the the waterfowl and their habitat suffer.

No Chemicals on my food. Rice, fish, ducks, muskrats, beaver, and cranberries all make it into my freezer from Tawas Lake.

I grew up on this lake. This is so disturbing. The geese have been there my entire life, the wild cat tails, the beauty, the nature and even the leaches in the weeds are all part of it and loved. Please leave that lake alone, there are plenty of clear lakes in the area, this one has been loved for generations and needs to be left alone so that future generations can enjoy the beauty and magic of that lake. Please don't allow it to be destroyed
