Science and Our Great Lakes Petition to Elected Officials
The Great Lakes suffer from serious threats such as toxic pollutants, sewer overflows, invasive species, water level reduction and contaminated sediment. These dangerous problems have led to illness that harm people, algal blooms, record beach closings and fish consumption advisories, habitat loss and billions of dollars in economic damage.
The best chance of ensuring our Great Lakes are healthy is to base decision about their protection and restoration on unbiased science. When protection and restoration decisions are made that are not based in unbiased science we risk harming our Great Lakes ecosystem.
The signers of this petition ask that you commit to using unbiased science in decision making about Great Lakes protection and restoration efforts.

I was staring at the water earlier today and feeling like this might actually go somewhere because seeing so many people agree about the science feels like a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. It is honestly pretty wild how this has picked up steam while I was just sitting in my kitchen worrying about those algal blooms and the beach closures that never seem to end.

Water is our more precious commodity, and the Great Lakes are a huge and fragile reservoir. Please exercise conservation of that resource!
Please save our Great Lakes! Don.t allow the funding for their protection to be cut from the budget.
We need to protect and preserve the Great Lakes against the effects of pollution and climate change. These lakes are a very important resource for the U.S.
We must take care of what we have ! Like land, "they" are not making anymore like this. Thank you.
Protect our natural resources or there'll be no more reason to, as we cannot live without clean water!
Conserve and protect our Great Lakes. Water IS life!!!

Lake Erie and the other Great Lakes are national jewels that must be protected - at any expense.
