Community Petition: No Fire Station in Our Backyard
We, the undersigned residents of the Aldyn subdivision and the neighboring rental community near Long Drive, call on the City of Woodstock relocate the proposed fire station from 351 Long Drive, Woodstock, 30189 to a more appropriate location. While we recognize and support the need for strong public safety services, the current site selection creates serious and lasting problems for nearby residents.
Key concerns include:
- Traffic congestion and hazards: Emergency vehicle movement combined with daily staff traffic will add to already heavy congestion along [street/intersection], creating delays and unsafe driving conditions.
- Noise and disruption: Sirens, engines, and station operations will disrupt evenings, weekends, and overnight hours when residents rely on quiet for rest and recovery.
- Community livability: Increased commotion and continuous activity will diminish quality of life and erode the peaceful character of the neighborhood.
- Property and rental value impact: Proximity to constant noise and heavy traffic has a direct negative effect on home desirability, rental demand, and long-term property values.
We therefore urge the City to identify an alternative site that fulfills public safety needs without sacrificing neighborhood safety, health, and livability. A different location can serve both first responders and the community more effectively.
We stand united in calling for a safer, smarter location for this fire station.
