We, the undersigned, oppose the proposal presented by Metro West Collaborative Development (MWCD) to develop, in partnership with the Pine Street Inn/Paul Sullivan Housing, "permanent supportive housing" for the "chronically homeless" (as defined by HUD) at Engine 6, 2042-2044 Beacon Street, Newton.
Serving chronically homeless in a suburban setting is unproven by the Metro West/Pine Street Inn groups and we feel the placement of a facility like this in a residential neighborhood is disadvantageous to all involved, including to the population which this project would seek to support.
We further feel the federal grant monies which MWCD seeks to fund this project could serve a larger number of Newton residents in need of affordable housing if applied in a different manner and that other opportunities to use these funds have not been adequately explored.

I have been spending my time meeting with neighbors to ensure our concerns about the Beacon Street site are documented properly. It is clear that we all share a deep worry about whether this specific plan is the right fit for the safety and character of our residential streets.

Seeing this kind of movement in our neighborhood proves that we are not alone in our concerns about the Engine 6 site. This response shows just how deeply we care about the future of our community and the people who live here.

Keep this out of our neighborhood. We have enough traffic on Beacon street as it is without adding more complex projects like this one.
Ridiculous plan. Has anyone actually thought about the safety of the kids living here?
