On July 1, 2013 the Beacon Center hired a new Director. Since that time things have changed at the Beacon Center so much that it has made ALOT of members/consumers angry and there has been a drop in clientele. Since the Beacon Center is part of Community Mental Health and it's supposed to be what's called a drop in center for the Mental Health Community current and past, I am here to be the voice for those who cannot speak or who are afraid to speak. Here are some examples of JUST how horrible the "NEW" Director is. 1. When the new director was supposed to start his position at the Beacon Center on July 1, 2013 he ended up with a domestic violence charge and could NOT start his position until July 2, 2013 AFTER somebody from the Beacon Center had picked him up from the Emmet County Sheriff Department the next morning. Which by the way he smelled of alcohol. 2. The current president for the Beacon Center at that time was forced to give up her position and resign. The excuses that she was given was that she was pregnant and it was a conflict of interest because her husband had worked there at that time. Seems to me that this is a form of discrimination. 3. Medicaid Beacon Center money was used to redecorate the new directors office and the Beacon Center as well without the consumers/members voting on it. Maybe they didn't want the Beacon Center painted a puke orange. Also Medicaid money is now being used on special things for the Staff AND board members for private parties and miscellaneous things. Nothing for the consumers/members. 4. Shopping and Appointment Days are no longer allowed and that is supposed to be one of the purposes for having a community van. 5. He has been heard making fun of current consumers/members and this is a form of Stigmatism. 6. There used to be secret board meetings held in the directors office that other board members were not aware of. 7. The director recently changed the Beacon Center bank account to his own personal account and now the Beacon Center money is deposited into his own account. He also has a personal debit card linked to this account as well. 8. He fired 2 long term employees. The excuses he gave: One was cussing and the other for Sexual Harassment. They had been there over 10 years. These are not legit excuses to fire 2 people as the witnesses are by far NOT credible. 9. The director was recently banned from a local bar because he let his alcohol addiction get the best of him and he had assaulted a past member of the board. This isn't a very good reputation to uphold for the Beacon Center. 10. A current member/consumer of the said Beacon Center is supsosably getting recipient rights called on him for something a non member is posting on facebook. He is being accused of being "behind" what is being said on facebook and he has been told that there will be no out of towners picked up from now on. He is also not getting picked up due to the fact that he is very obese which leaves this to be a cause for descrimination which is grounds for a lawsuit if something does not get done about it. 11. Another member/consumer was recently banned as well from the Beacon Center because the director said she is a "crazy b***ch". 12. He recently has allowed somebody on the board as treasurer who is a drug addict as well as a thief. Not the kind of person you need to handle your money. LADIES AND GENTLEMAN......THE LIST IS ENDLESS AS TO WHAT THIS NEW DIRECTOR HAS DONE TO MEMBERS/CONSUMERS AND HE WILL NOT BE STOPPED UNLESS WE TAKE A STAND AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. THE MENTAL HEALTH COMMUNITY AS WELL AS THE BEACON CENTER DESERVE A "NEW" DIRECTOR THAT WILL NOT HARRASS, STIGMATIZE, OR CRITICIZE. PLEASE DO WHATS RIGHT AND SIGN MY PETITION SO THAT I CAN GET IT OVER TO THE PROPER DEPARTMENT AND HAVE THIS POMPUS JERK REMOVED AS A DIRECTOR! WE HAVE A VOICE.....LETS USE IT.
