Welcome to the “Save the Emerson” page. The Emerson Center for Arts & Culture needs to be saved from its Executive Director and Board. Dozens, if not hundreds, of folks have had disrespectful, unprofessional, and downright mean encounters with the Executive Director. These brave individuals have contacted the board for support, but most of us have been ignored and not even acknowledged!

The unethical behavior of the ed extends into every corner of the Emerson. From the lack of engagement amongst tenants, to the insane rent hikes, to the 50% price markup on clay prices for ceramics classes - how in earth this place claims to support “community” is beyond me.
I worked in the Emerson from 2018-2020. I stand with my former employer and my artist tenant neighbors in the Emerson. This building and community is so meaningful to Bozeman. It is sincerely sad to need this petition to simply create an opening for better communication and accountability.
Had a really unpleasant interaction with the ED a few years ago related to a concert on the lawn (most events have been great, this one was out of control). We live close by and I’d love to be more involved, but promised myself I wouldn’t donate or volunteer until after she moved on.
I was a tenant at the Emerson for 2 1/2 years, and left specifically because of abusive and disrespectful behavior by leadership. I am willing to speak in public and share details about the experience.
Susan abused her power to an excessive degree on one particular occasion where I tried to attend a gallery opening on the day mask restrictions had been officially lifted toward the end of Covid. She would not acknowledge this change at the state government level and proceeded to bar me from entry.

Susan has brought me to tears numerous times throughout the years, as well as others who have worked with me at the Emerson. She is a bully and needs to go. Not showing my name for fear of retribution.
