Harvey Price is an abusive, discriminatory bully who consistently oversteps his authority, creates his own rules on the fly and puts what is easiest and most convenient for his inflexible needs over the children of this community. Harvey does not deserve his position as Rec Director for the Town of Naples, Maine and our children and community deserve better. It is time to stop his tyranny and as tax payers, it is our job to step up, speak up and put an end to this abuse of power.
I have heard countless examples of children being denied access to town-sponsored recreational activities because of an honest mistake or misunderstanding (e.g., their busy, working and often single parent missed the registration deadline by a few hours or a day or calling the Sheriff to remove a well-known child from the Town Beach because he didn't have proper ID to prove he was a resident). I have experienced situations like this many times myself.
This evening, I tried to register my 2 young boys for football and Harvey refused to let me register them, kicked us out and called the Sheriff to have us removed over a misunderstanding. Needless to say, my children were in tears, I was mortified and the other parents, though not surprised based upon his past behavior, were horrified. The misunderstanding involved me, as a single parent of 4 children, texting him late on a Monday evening to see if my children could attend Summer Rec that week. By Tuesday morning I realized I had made a mistake and had birthday plans for my son out of state on one of the days that I chose. I immediately contacted him to admit the mistake and to ask to change or cancel. It was less than 12 hours later. I had paid $202, which is a sizable amount of money. Harvey refused to let me make the change or cancel and refused to refund my money, despite having never explained a no-refund, no-exchanges, no-cancellation policy. I attempted to reason with him to no avail. And now he is threatening me and refuses to allow my children to play any Naples Rec sports until I pay back the $202.
He is unreasonable, inflexible, completely lacking of tact and reason and has similarly hurt the children of nearly every parent I've spoken with in this community and or bullied and alienated the parent or family member. It is time to find a new Rec Director who is dedicated to putting the children of this community first and making every effort to make athletics a healthy and available outlet for our children.
Please join me in taking action to have Harvey removed from his position and replaced with someone who is approachable, fair, reasonable and dedicated to the children of this community.

Our children deserve better. We are killing our sports by having this individual dictating who, what, where and when. He has no team work mentality and refuses to work with anyone who wants to better our children.
I had an issue with coming up with the over $1000 for Summer Rec at once and asked if I could pay weekly. He said no. Until he found out who my mom was. His tune changed after that but it's still not ok. You shouldn't treat people differently because of who they are.
I find Harvey's abuse of power, bullying and repeated selfish and unreasonable actions that punish and deprive the children of this community reprehensible. It is time for his removal.
I guess if you won the parental lottery and were lucky enough to have a boy, who is also the same age as his son, and you are able to afford internet service so you can sign up online (apparently written applications at the town office aren't accepted?!), you'll have a pretty good variety of opportunities...
Thank you so much for all of your support. I've had a number of parents tell me they support this and forward the petition along, but who are afraid to sign because they fear that he'll take it out on their kids. That is just wrong.
Good Luck with the petition!

I think it would be helpful to the community to have someone who wasn't splitting their time between two towns. In rec, priority should be given to families who want to have their children involved in constructive activities. No one should be penalized for missing a deadline by an hour or for not coaching.
