Mr. Louie Wuhr donated a large parcel of land for an arena in Minto, N. B. He was also instrumental in the building and plant operations of the Minto Centennial Arena which opened in 1967. In addition, he sharpened skates for over 40 years, night and day, most often free, especially for the less fortunate. Louie simply wanted a place for the community, notably children, to enjoy winter and summer sport, and "to keep them off the streets". Louie expected no praise for his generosity, he got his reward from seeing happy kids and sharpening their blades. Louie passed away in 2016, and the citizens of Minto and surrounding areas, who have benefited by his kindness, feel it is time to honour Mr. Wuhr and wish to request that the village consider a name change of said arena to include his name. If you agree, please sign this petition to support this effort.

Thank you,

Louis Wuhr not only donated the land but also made the original ice scrappers and flooding carts.Through Louis' efforts , this arena provided the venue for many historical and memorable events as well as providing hundreds of young participants the opportunity to develop , not only athletic skills, but also the necessary life skills that led to successful careers..

I think this is a great idea, I used to have Louie sharpen my children's skates. He was always kind and friendly to us!

I grew up in Minto and live there a portion of the year and would love to see Louis Wuhr’s name added to the building. As a personal friend of the family I saw the generosity that man had for the community. I’m honoured to sign this petition and I look forward to seeing his name added to the arena. It’s long overdue.

Absolutely agree with this petition! Louie was a incredible staple in our community and opened up his land so our children would have a place to learn the love of skating and most of all hockey !! The name change would be a show of most respect and high honour!

Please consider changing the name of our arena! Louie was a generous man! He took my brother Walter from an outdoor rink to a beautiful facility in which he formed many friendship throughout his hockey career. We owe Louie and his family that special recognition. Please do the right thing. Linda
