The committee and members of Yeovil Olympiads Athletic Club (YOAC) wish to propose that South Somerset District Council (SSDC), consider the formal dedication of the Yeovil Athletics Arena, Picket Lane, as a tribute to the late William “Bill” Whistlecroft MBE, for a life time’s work devoted to athletics at local and national level.
THE REQUEST
YOAC committee, members and associates request that the “Arena” is renamed to reflect the outstanding lifetime contribution to Athletics made by Mr Whistlecroft as the;
"The Bill Whistlecroft Arena, Yeovil"

The momentum generated by this petition has prompted a formal request for a meeting with the South Somerset District Council leadership. I am currently finalizing a briefing document that outlines Bill Whistlecroft’s contributions to be presented during our upcoming session.

An exceptional coach at all abilities, an inspiring personality and a great mentor for me who embodied the ethos and ideology of YOAC. A massive gap has been left in Somerset's athletics system with him gone that's goin to take more than one pair of shoes to fill. Fully deserving of this honour as wel as his MBE.
Bill was one of a kind in terms of his commitment. He was just as committed at teaching hurdles in the freezing temperatures last year as he was when I was at college a few decades ago. This will be an appropriate tribute to a wonderful man.
Bill gave up thousands of hours of his and his wife's time to help Yeovil Olympiads and it's athletes to get it where it is today as the best track club in Somerset and a very good reputation nationally. What a great way to honour his memory in naming the track after him.
Bill taught and coached generations of athletes from Yeovil and the surrounding area, some of whom went on to international level. He was instrumental in bringing fun and achievement into local athletics and I believe the renaming of the Arena would be entirely appropriate and would further his legacy into the future.
Without Bill, Yeovil would not have an athletics arena. This will be a fitting tribute to a great man who was passionate about Athletics.
Well deserved
Bill deserves this for everything he did for athletics and the athletes he helped over the years!

It was Bill who had the major part in bringing ESAA to Yeovil. SSDC should be reminded of this.
