South Lakes High School instilled a policy called “Tardy Tables”. These tables are placed at both enterances, upon late arrival (late arrival is as soon as the first bell rings, even if you walk in the door when it rings) you must check in at the table (which is a tedious process) and then you receive a pass admitting you to class. Now our school having 2,500 or so students will fill up with a lot of people coming late. Students are waiting in these long lines for 15, 20, even 30 minutes waiting just go they can go to class. And get this, if you are late 3 times you get detention. Each week on average there are at least 100 kids in these detentions. People can get stuck in traffic or have a bad morning, this is a property of life, there are always going to be factors that affect us which we did not plan for. This is why I am asking for signatures on this petition to move the commencement of the “Tardy Tables” to 8:30 allowing an extra 20 minutes after first bell for those students who experience uncontralable factors. I have to take the city bus to school it is late at times , I was late by 1 minute but the tardy table made me late by 20 mins and I had to sit in detention.
Those of us who normally get to school on time, but when something unexpected happens we get punished. This is for the 2% not the 98%.
I may be 1-2 minutes late but having to go to the tardy table and wait in line makes me even more late waiting 5-15 minutes just to get a pass so I can go to class. Last year it was so much easier to just go to the sub school and get your pass and then go to class.
Due to terrible drop off system, many students are late only 1-2 minutes. The tardy tables cause them to be late 5-15 more minutes. Its ridiculous. The old system was much better. Tardy tables arent helping
I'm never late and I still think it just interferes with school more than just kids being late.

I agree with this 100% the tardy does not prepare you for real life at all. “Real life” jobs do not expect you to be their within the millisecond. This is just another policy that the school created that fails horribly
