South Lakes High School instilled a policy called “Tardy Tables”. These tables are placed at both enterances, upon late arrival (late arrival is as soon as the first bell rings, even if you walk in the door when it rings) you must check in at the table (which is a tedious process) and then you receive a pass admitting you to class. Now our school having 2,500 or so students will fill up with a lot of people coming late. Students are waiting in these long lines for 15, 20, even 30 minutes waiting just go they can go to class. And get this, if you are late 3 times you get detention. Each week on average there are at least 100 kids in these detentions. People can get stuck in traffic or have a bad morning, this is a property of life, there are always going to be factors that affect us which we did not plan for. This is why I am asking for signatures on this petition to move the commencement of the “Tardy Tables” to 8:30 allowing an extra 20 minutes after first bell for those students who experience uncontralable factors.
