This petition is created to let the officials with the KC Parks and Recreation and the Board of the Liberty Memorial know we do not want the Rockfest held in our neighborhood anymore. It is disruptive to the local residents, it destroys the grounds of the park and the memorial and it keeps out of town and locals from visiting the Liberty Memorial (which was recently recognized as the 5th best Museum in the country).
We feel this type of event is better suited for another of Kansas city's outstanding parks where they could sell more tickets, have more parking and enjoy more amenities. Berkley Park at the riverfront is an awesome site and Swope Park could be another fantastic alternative.

My dog and I use this park multiple times a week. As someone who worked for Rockfest last year in the mosh area, I was covered in mud from head to toe. The entire Liberty Memorial area was RUINED. This dog park already doesn't have anything for the dogs to do, but run around and now you want it turned into a giant mud pit?
Excellent suggestion! As a union Hill resident, and a regular user of Penn Valley Park (as well as a PVPC board member), I agree completely that the annual damage to the park is not worth the disruption to the area, and the cost of the haphazard repairs needed annually to the grounds.
From blocking access to parking for a mile around, community sports fields, the liberty memorial, and the Penn valley dog park to destroying the grass of the park itself and ruining a beautiful area for residents, Rockfest should be moved to a less vital, populated area of the city
Its a great event but its outgrown the urban center its in. The location is inconvenient for both concert-goers with nowhere to park and residents who have trouble getting around.
From a person that uses the park every day there are still parts of the park that have not recovered from last years RockFest. The side walks down Grand were covered in mud for several months.
It's a historical spot yet you allow your nasty dogs to crap there? Makes sense. Also Rock Fest brings in a lot of money there.

As a resident of the immediate area around the Memorial and park, I throw my support behind moving Rockfest. The festival does a yearly disservice to the Memorial and park that does not happen from other festivals and it clogs the streets with cars displacing local residents.
