My dog and I use this park multiple times a week. As someone who worked for Rockfest last year in the mosh area, I was covered in mud from head to toe. The entire Liberty Memorial area was RUINED. This dog park already doesn't have anything for the dogs to do, but run around and now you want it turned into a giant mud pit?

PennValley Park is too small and has too little parking. We live at the top of Union Hill and even there it's still a mess.
Our family and a whole host of others utilize Penn Valley park on a daily basis - especially the dog park area. Residents in this area with little to no yard depend upon this park.
It's an unfortunate waste of city funds to destroy and then repair the park every year - when this only happens because it's too small to host an event of this size.

Excellent suggestion! As a union Hill resident, and a regular user of Penn Valley Park (as well as a PVPC board member), I agree completely that the annual damage to the park is not worth the disruption to the area, and the cost of the haphazard repairs needed annually to the grounds.

I would sign this a thousand times if I could. During the week of Rock fest, the Penn valley dog park is also inaccessible. Move Rock fest.

I think city money could be better spent than cleaning up and repairing after this event. Agree that the event has outgrown this venue.

I completely support the idea of moving rock fest. Penn Valley park is a historical park that needs better care and hosting the concert does just the opposite. Heavy trucks may have been why the trees are dying. Pathways are destroyed. The park is out of commission and unavailable to the public for days. The open space has never been re-graded to its original form. Please let me know how I can help further. You have answered my dreams; someone else that cares!

It really sucks that something that promotes such bottom of the barrel music like Disturbed and Seether also has to directly impact my life in a negative way ~10 days every year as a commuter. If 95% of the bands they booked were something other than generic buttrock, I probably wouldn't care as much.

My perspective:
I used to live in Midtown. I work right next to Penn Valley Park. Driving down Penn Valley is still my route to work. Yes, it takes them a week to set up. One road is blocked off for the week before to set up and a few days after to tear down. Not really that much of a hassle for me. The days of the festival; yes, driving around that area sucks. You know what I do? I drive around it.
Now, because I work next to Penn Valley Park, I have a parking lot in which I charge people to park on the days of the festival. And me making money is not what this is about. These kids are so polite and friendly. I’ve have some great conversations with parents bringing their kids to their first concert. They’ve come from all over the United States. They’ve paid $50-75 for a ticket, they can’t bring anything in except ONE sealed bottle of water. I charge them $20 for parking and they couldn’t be happier. And absolutely no trash in the parking lot when I come to work on Monday.
Now, the second time in the year I charge for parking is during Celebration at the Station. These concert-goers can bring coolers, chairs, food, and beer, whatever. 80% percent of these people complain about paying $5 to park. They will literally argue with me and tell me how I’m ripping them off. And every year I have to come to work early to pick up all the trash from the parking lot. Every year.
Penn Valley Park is a park. Get it? Parks are for music, art, fun. RockFest brings in about $5 million dollars to the local economy. Maybe the people complaining about the park not being cleaned up after the festival should talk to the city leaders and quit blaming the concert-goers.
Should the Celebration at the Station be moved also? Maybe. They too, take about a week to set up and have major roads clocked off. Have you ever seen the law
