Stop Current Proposal for 650 Unit Crystal Flats Apartment Complex next to Memorial Park
On August 1, the planning commission of Bentonville, Arkansas will vote on a 650 unit apartment complex being proposed to develop in the open 27 acres between the tennis courts and Legacy Village in Memorial Park. Please sign this petition to help us stop the proposed apartment complex next to this beautiful park.
This proposed apartment complex will no doubt be a large overshadowing and out of place development adjacent our town's most prominent park. The traffic study calls for 4,700 additional cars flowing through J Street and JohnDeShields Blvd. Imagine how our kids will safely bike, play, and enjoy the park with 4,700 more cars driving through. Imagine the school next door and how parents will safely get kids to and from school with 4,700 more cars each day. All of this is easily avoided if the planning commission represents the voice of the community and votes against the proposal.
We will continue to engage opposition to this proposal as-is and look forward to the next city planning meeting on August 1.

This is being planned for the wrong location. There has to be a location closer to the new schools and roads that are already 4 lane with a center turn lane. Adding this plus the Helen Walton Center will have J street backed all the way up to Central.
Since it's inception the Crystal Bridges Musuem has been a magnet for tourism in Bentonville. A 650 unit complex does nothing to enhance the Bentonville experience. What it will do is bring congestion and crime. I lived in Austin, Tx for 30 years and saw it happen.
I live in this area. My son's cross country team practices throughout the Memorial Park area. An apartment complex would ruin the tranquility of the existing neighborhood(s). Strongly against! This would be foolish development project for the City of Bentonville.
The ideas and techniques used in this proposal in isolation are absolutely the right way we should be thinking about the built environment. The issue is it is not in isolation and totally destroys the existing surroundings no matter how nice of a building it might be.
The scale of this project is not appropriate for that area. Pedestrian safety in that area is my main concern with something that size. And traffic- the traffic that size complex would add would be totally detrimental to that area.
The proposed Crystal Flats-style multi-family housing complex is out of place on John Deshields BL. Visualize the 8W building at 8th and Walton. This is a 6-story structure. Now imagine several of them but 10 feet higher across from Orchards Park. The additional 1,000 cars the multi-housing complex will substantially increase traffic on J, Tiger, MLK, and Central. Bentonville is a desired place to live because it has parks, museums, and green space set aside for residents. Its multi-housing and commercial areas are apart from these. I understand city planners and businesses want affordable housing for incoming staff, but there are many areas of town to the south and west that will fulfill this need and preserve the one area of our town that still has a small-town feel. If we lose this 'feel' Bentonville becomes another charmless corporate hub.

I just moved in to Legay Village to get away from the hustle & bustle and here comes an inaapropriate development right across the street. It is not needed and will most certainly spoil the serenity and disrupt the traffic of this peaceful neighborhood. STOP IT!
