In light of Haruka Weiser's tragic death, this is a petition for UT Austin to add more blue police boxes on campus. While UT does have more than 120 police boxes right now, a lot of them are clustered together—like in the parking lot. Security cameras and place boxes are few and far in between. On most college campuses its pointed out on tours that in whatever direction you look, you're bound to see at least two police boxes/helplines. Signing this petition means you would like to see more progress towards building police boxes and cameras on and around campus.

I am currently compiling your accounts to present directly to the administration so they cannot ignore the reality of our daily fear.

Seeing this momentum grow feels like a heavy weight being lifted because it proves that so many of you want a safer campus for us all. I keep thinking about how much of a difference these simple safety tools would have made for Haruka and so many others who felt vulnerable walking home alone at night.

DO IT. SAFETY FIRST. NO EXCUSES.
I walk home from the library late and it is honestly terrifying sometimes. we need these now.
way too many dark spots on campus at night. fix the lighting and put these boxes everywhere.
it shouldnt take a tragedy for us to feel secure walking to class. please prioritize this.
just make the campus safer already. its not that hard to install a few more cameras.

I hope that this helps students feel more safe walking on this campus at night because we will inevitably have to walk alone at night every once in a while. Stay safe.
