I would like to take this time to thank each and every person that took time out of their day/night to help show support to the Students of Mingo County in getting Special Olympics back. People don't know how much it meant to see all the support for these students! It was amazing. Because of us sticking together in what we felt was right the Special Education Department has decided to reinstate the Special Olympics on May 28, 2014. If you are free on that day I hope that you can come out to volunteer, support, and cheer each and everyone of these kids on! Once again Thank You for your support for these kids!!

It is unfair to punish children because of weather conditions. Special Olympics should not be cancelled. Other sports events have been made up and rescheduled due to weather conditions. This one day should not be taken from these children.
I helped in the special Olympics when I was a senior in high school. It is one of my greatest memories, and I know it's also one of theirs. Honestly can't imagine it being cancelled. It's something these children look forward to every year.
Snow days or not...these kids work hard and look forward to this event. Unless you are canceling ball games and things that other students attend and look forward to, to make up snow days...don't take this from these kids! They DESERVE this!
I have a very good friend who has a child with Autism. She looks forward to this event every year. Other children have events just about year around but this is the only event our special needs children have . I think it is a decrease to take this special event from them.
This is very disappointing to anyone who has a child in their family who looks forward to this every year :( my cousin Austin was in a car wreck and can not play sports, but he was so proud and enjoyed himself at the Special Olympics. This is a shame!! I hope whoever cancelled this has a good reason!!
I,would like to take a second to say i am so ashamed to live in a town where the first thing they cut is SPECIAL OLYMPIC'S,I am a mother of 3 whom loves to watch my son play basketball,and think they should cancel that first before they take the one day a year away from special need's children who look forward to this one day for them where they feel normal for once,they work so much harder they have to,I am blessed with 3 wonderful kid's whom i have taught everyone is the same...
We can not control the weather and therefore the kids have nothing to do with the reason for cancelling.This,is all some kids have to look forward,I don't know how anyone could sleep at night knowing they are taking away something so special to so many.GOD BLESS EVERYONE...

I'm so upset about this! These kids deserve to have the opportunity to shine! As a future educator, with a passion for all special needs, this saddens me greatly! Shame on the BOE...give them back their day!
