Dear Brunswick County Elementary School Families,
CIS is CANCELLING before and after school program with only 2 business days to make arrangements and parks and rec full. The program you and I have relied on is closed with little to no notice. Sign this petition to tell CIS that we are supportive and IN NEED of this program and the excellent care they espouse and have achieved in years past!
CIS is a national (non-profit) program with the mission “to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life”. For Southport Elementary School, this program provided a safe after school environment, for our kids to work on their homework, so parents can work a full day without worrying about latch key kids and the inherent problems that can arise when children go unsupervised. Their mission goes on to say “Young people thrive when adults care about them on a one-to-one level, and when they also have a sense of belonging to a caring community (communitiesinschools.org)”.
Please show Brunswick County CIS that we depend on them to live up to their Mission Statement! Please sign your name to support reinstatement of the CIS before and after school program.Update: CIS released a statement that a petition is not the same as signing up. Well let's make "communities" in schools listen to their community ! Keep signing and keep up the comments! And PLEASE share

I have been reading through the comments you are leaving and the stories about how this program helps your families are truly moving. This is not about anything I did because the credit for keeping this issue in the spotlight belongs entirely to you.

I am truly overwhelmed by the momentum we have built together because I honestly never imagined so many people would step up for this cause. This progress happened entirely because of your passion and your willingness to speak out for our kids. It is humbling to see how much we can accomplish when we look out for one another.

Brunswick county has few programs for special needs after school care. CIS after school program was one uses and could be relied upon. So now what do working parents with special needs children do for after school care?
why stop a program that is working - 75 participants at Southport Elementary alone last year!!
My son has been in the cis program 5/6 years. This program is needed to give a safe secure place w a helping hand before and after school! 1 child, 20 children. 1 person helped can change the world ! Please continue the program !
I was planning on having my daughter in the program this year. I was looking forward to having her out of a daycare. I myself was in community in schools and it was wonderful. I am very disappointed that they have canceled the program and I had to hunt for another option.
I like many others had my daughter attending CIS after school. To hear the week before school starts that they have done away with this program is ridiculous. I am lucky enough to have family support, but not all people do. This should have been decided at the end of school last year so parents could make arrangements well in advance of this school year.
This service should be restored immediately. There was a number to call for information in this weeks Pilot even though they abruptly cancelled the program.
My son has been going too CIS for the past two years, I was planning on signing him up at open house! How can you cancel it before school even starts?! On the other hand, thank you for continuing this service, now we scrambling trying to figure out what to do.

My child has attended CIS for four years now at Southport Elementary. I went tonight at open house to sign him up and I was told they were not offering this program. I have to be at work at 8 am. I cannot drop my son off in the car rider line until 8:15. What are parents to do? I know that the elementary school had at least 20 after school kids there. Please let us know if you will reconsider.
