Join the Movement to Bring Backyard Hens to Manassas City!

We're working with the City of Manassas to propose legislation that would allow single-family homeowners to responsibly keep female chickens (hens) in their backyards. This is a growing, successful movement already embraced by neighboring communities like Fairfax and Leesburg—and now it's time for Manassas City to join in.

Backyard hens provide fresh eggs, natural pest control, and an educational opportunity for families—all while promoting sustainable living. Our proposal includes sensible regulations: limits on the number of hens, no roosters, minimum yard size requirements, and other guidelines to ensure harmony in our neighborhoods.

Help us show the Mayor and City Council that Manassas City supports the right to have chickens.

Please sign the petition today and be part of the movement!

I am truly stunned by the momentum we have built together. This progress belongs entirely to the residents who believe in our community and I am just so thankful to be part of this group.

My kids really want to learn where food comes from. Seems silly we cant have a few hens in the backyard when other places nearby allow it no problem.

YES PLEASE. We have wanted chickens for years but the current rules are just outdated. Keeping 4 hens in a coop is way cleaner than having a dog anyway.

About time! The neighbors in fairfax have them and nobody even notices. Fresh eggs would be great for the family.

I hope the city council listens to us. It is just a few birds not a farm lol. I really really want some fresh eggs for my breakfast.

Need this passed. Chickens are great for the garden and help with all the bugs we get in the summer. Just keep the roosters banned and everyone will be happy.

Thank you for working on this! We had backyard chickens in San Antonio, Texas, and the city helped support families owning chickens to help with food scarcity! There were common sense limits--only 6 hens per household, with mimimum space requirements to prevent abuses and annoyance to neighbors. During Covid when eggs were scarce, the neighbors all came together and shared their eggs!
